This report summarizes the activities and results from research conducted during the Spring semester 2016 as part of the BreakingGround supported graduate Sociology course “Applied Sociology” at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC). The students were enrolled in a graduate program at UMBC (MA in Applied Sociology, Geography or PhD in Language, Literacy and Culture) and performed the research activities under the direction of Marina Adler, the instructor of the course. Based on connections made in the community since 2015, the students examined community well-being with special attention to access to safe spaces, healthy food, and a healthy environment
We would like to thank BreakingGround and the Department of Sociology and Anthropology at UMBC for supporting this project. We also extend many thanks and appreciation to all research partners, participants and respondents that made this project possible.
